US: AutoZone’s CEO to step down after 18 years - How has the brand performed in recent years?
Automotive replacement parts and accessories retailer AutoZone’s long-time CEO Bill Rhodes will step down in January next year after more than 18 years in the position. With Rhodes set to transition to the role of executive chairman, the company’s current vice president of merchandising, marketing and supply chain teams will step in as the company’s chief executive.
We look at YouGov data to see how AutoZone has done in recent years.
According to YouGov BrandIndex, which tracks consumer sentiment towards thousands of brands daily, AutoZone’s Consideration score, which indicates how many consumers are considering purchasing from a brand, improved five percentage points from 24% in 2019 to 29% in 2023.
The brand’s Index score, which is a measure of overall brand health taking into account perceptions of Value, Satisfaction, Reputation, Recommend, Quality and Impression, went from a net score of 25 in 2019 to 27 in 2023.
The retailer’s Current Customer score, however, has remained unchanged from 2019 onwards.

Methodology: YouGov BrandIndex collects data on thousands of brands every day. AutoZone’s Index score is an average of Impression, Value, Quality, Reputation, Satisfaction and Recommend scores for the brand and delivered as a net score between -100 and +100. Its Consideration score is based on the question: When you are in the market next to purchase from one of the following brands, from which of the following would you consider purchasing? and delivered as a percentage. Its Current Customer score is based on the question: Have you purchased from any of the following brands in the past three months? and delivered as a percentage.
