US: Popeyes assigns creative duties to a new agency - What are its diners’ views on advertising?

Popeyes Louisiana Chicken (commonly known as Popeyes) has hired McKinney to handle its creative duties after a search that began in February 2023. McKinney replaces incumbent creative agency Gut Miami which took charge of the account in 2020.

We look at YouGov data to see what the fast-food joint’s current customers think about advertising and consumer experiences.

According to YouGov Profiles - which covers demographic, psychographic, attitudinal and behavioral consumer metrics - 75% of Popeyes’ current customers agree with the statement that “brands need to find innovative ways to market themselves and their products.” Another 69% also agree with the statement that they “like seeing real looking people in advertisements.”

Popeyes’ customers are also more likely than the general US population to agree with the statement that they “are more likely to engage with advertisements that are tailored to me” (49% vs. 45%).

We also look at Profiles data for factors Popeyes’ customers consider before selecting restaurants to order from.

More than half (55%) of this group considers value for money and so does 52% of the general US population. Half (50%) of Popeyes’ diners consider the type of cuisine available at the restaurant, and 46% factor in deals and offers available.
