US: ESPN working to double up as a sports streaming hub - Where are customers streaming sports now?
ESPN is looking to create a feature on its website and app which will link visitors to sites that are live streaming a particular sporting event. The company is reportedly engaging major sports leagues and media partners to this effect. ESPN could consider a model where it charges a cut of subscription revenue from users signing up for a streaming service via the new feature.
With ESPN’s latest sports streaming efforts, we look at where do ESPN’s current audiences and the general US population streams sports.
According to YouGov Profiles - which covers demographic, psychographic, attitudinal and behavioral consumer metrics - 30% of ESPN’s consumers stream sports on Amazon Prime. In comparison, 17% of the general US population also uses Amazon Prime when it comes to streaming sports.
ESPN+ (21%), Peacock (13%), YouTube TV (13%) and Hulu (12%) complete the top five list of streaming services or platforms ESPN customers use to watch sports.
