US: Rite Aid’s Heyward Donigan exits as CEO - How did the drugstore chain do during her tenure?

Online pharmacy, Rite Aid, has announced the exit of its current CEO, president, and member of its board, Heyward Donigan. The retailer has named Elizabeth Burr - who was most recently the president and chief commercial officer at digital health company Carrot Inc. - interim CEO while it looks for a permanent replacement for Donigan.

The exit comes months after Rite Aid was listed as a ‘retailer at risk for bankruptcy.’ How has the retailer performed since Donigan took over as CEO back in August 2019?

According to YouGov BrandIndex - which tracks consumer sentiment towards thousands of brands daily - Rite Aid’s Index, Consideration and Current Customer scores have fallen slightly under Donigan as CEO.

The brand’s Index score - which is an overall measure of brand health, made up of General Impression, Customer Satisfaction, Quality, Value, Corporate Reputation and Recommendation - dropped three points from a net score of 12 on 12 August 2019 to 9 on 8 January 2023.

Rite Aid’s Current Customer scores rested at 9% on 8 January 2023 from 11% on 12 August 2019. It’s Consideration metric - which indicates how many consumers are considering purchasing from the brand, when next in market - fell from 14% to 11% during Donigan’s tenure.
