Which US auto insurers offer the best value for money?

YouGov Profiles data shows that two-fifths of American adults (41%) say they would not get any insurance if they could get away with it. Two-fifths of adults also agree that there is no point to having a car insurance if one is made to pay for accidents anyway.

It is important, then, amongst other things, for American car insurers to assure their customers of the benefits they provide and the value they add. But which US car insurers really offer the best value for money according to the adult American consumer?

Data from YouGov BrandIndex reveals that the Auto-Owners Insurance group earned the highest Value score - which tracks whether consumers think a brand represents a good or poor value for money - between October 2021 and September 2022. The mutual insurance company scored 37.7 points during the 12-month period.

Direct Auto Insurance comes in a distant second with a score of 34.7 followed by the Amica insurance group with 34.2 points.

SafeAuto secures the fourth place with a score of 32.8 followed by Mercury, a multiple line insurance company in a distant fifth with a score of 29.5 points.

The gaps narrow as we move down the table – The General Insurance (27), Progressive (25.3), and American Family Insurance (24.4) close out the top ten.
