September US Advertisers of the Month

iPhone, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video are our advertisers of the month for the US, meaning they saw the largest increases in Ad Awareness of all the brands tracked by YouGov BrandIndex in September, 2022. Ad Awareness is a measure of how many consumers have seen an advertisement for a given brand in the previous two weeks.

iPhone’s Ad Awareness rose steadily throughout September from 32.0% to 40.6% for a total gain of 8.6%, making it the top US advertiser. This rise in awareness is likely related to the campaign surrounding the release of the latest iPhones on September 7. The iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus are Apple’s “affordable” counterparts to the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

This month’s runner-up was streaming service Disney+ which saw a rise of 5.9% from 29.1% to 35.0%. This leap may be related to the brand’s recent campaign in which the brand created a Tinder profile for the eponymous hero of programme She-Hulk: Attorney at Law to promote that series.

Amazon Prime Video saw the third largest spike in Ad Awareness in September, rising from 21.9% of respondents saying they saw an ad for this brand to 27.6%, for a total change of 5.7%. Part of this rise may be linked to the launch of their Rings of Power series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings books. The campaign surrounding this launch included designing five Amazon delivery boxes dedicated to the series.

Methodology: BrandIndex collects data on thousands of brands every day. A brand’s Ad Awareness score is based on the question: “Which of the following consumer brands have you seen an advertisement for in the past two weeks?” and delivered as a percentage. The data is based on the interviews of adults in the US aged 18+ between August 26 and September 22, 2022. Learn more about BrandIndex.
