Maruti Suzuki Tops YouGov’s Automotive & Mobility Rankings in India for the second consecutive year

YouGov's Automotive & Mobility Rankings 2022 reveal the top ten brands in terms of overall brand health according to urban Indians

Indian carmaker Maruti Suzuki has been crowned as the top brand in YouGov's Automotive & Mobility Rankings 2022 for the second year in succession.

YouGov's Automotive & Mobility Rankings 2022 is determined using the Index score – which assesses overall brand health. The score takes into account consumers’ perception of a brand’s overall quality, value, impression, reputation, satisfaction and whether consumers would recommend the brand to others.

Both Honda and its subsidiary brand Honda Two-wheeler remained in second (26.1) and ninth (19.0) this year as well despite recording declines in their scores over the past year.

The 2022 rankings show urban Indians’ strong affinity towards Indian brands. Tata Motors made the greatest improvement to its brand health perception over the year and climbed up one place to third, with an improved score of +2.9 points. The surge in Tata Motors' scores can be attributed to good customer response to its new launches (like Tata Harrier- dark edition, Tata Punch and Nexon- dark edition) in the fast-growing SUV and compact SUV segment.

Likewise, Indian multinational automotive manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra made a large stride to its brand health score, making a brand new entry into the list in tenth (18.0).

On the other hand, two-wheeler giant Royal Enfield moved down one place to fourth after recording a minor decline of -0.4 points.

Despite suffering recent backlash on social media after a dealer of Hyundai in Pakistan posted a message supporting separatists in Kashmir, Korean brand Hyundai was able to retain its seventh rank (21.7) in the list with no change in score. Also retaining their past rankings are German luxury auto brands BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz occupying the sixth (22.4), eighth (19.9) and ninth (19.8) place, respectively.

Methodology:

The data included in the YouGov's Automotive & Mobility Rankings 2022 has been drawn from YouGov BrandIndex.

YouGov's Automotive & Mobility Rankings 2022 show the brands with the highest average Index scores between February 1, 2021, and January 31st, 2022. The scores are mostly representative of the general population of Urban Indian adults (18+). All Index scores listed have been rounded to a single decimal place; however, we have used additional precision to assign ranks. All brands have been tracked for at least 6 months to be included in the rankings.

Each day consumers are asked about their views on automotive brands across various markets, which allows YouGov to build a picture of how these brands are perceived by the general public through comparing Index scores.
