WhatsApp best perceived brand among Hong Kong women

WhatsApp tops YouGov’s annual list of the best rated brands among women.

The brands that make the best impression on Hong Kong women fall into two categories – tech brands and digital payment solutions, new analysis from YouGov Plan & Track shows.

YouGov’s women’s rankings looks at the brands that have left the most positive impression on women. Instant messaging provider WhatsApp was not a contender in last year’s top ten, but has taken the top spot this year with a score of 48.4. It is followed by other digital platforms such as Google in third (41.0) and video-sharing platform YouTube in fifth (37.9)

Payment solutions also resonate strongly among women in Hong Kong. Moneyback comes in second (45.8), VISA in fourth (40.0) and Octopus Card in eighth (35.1).

Uniqlo was last year’s top brand but this year it is in sixth place (37.6). It is followed by coffee-chain Starbucks in seventh (35.2), while the top ten is rounded out by sports retailer Nike in ninth (34.2) and Japanese personal care brand Shiseido in tenth (31.9).

The rankings also reveal which brands have seen the biggest increase in Impression among women over the past year, with Shiseido taking the most improved spot with a score increase of 5.4 points. It is followed by insurance company AIA (up 4.7 points) and French cosmetics company Lancôme (up 4.4).

Ervin Ha, Head of Data Products at YouGov APAC said: “There are two types of brands that appear to leave a positive impression on Hong Kong women – tech brands and digital payment solutions. This demonstrates the amount of tech savvy female consumers, and the importance of positive perception of brands.”
