When do Americans start their 4th of July vacation?

Jamie Ballard - July 2nd, 2018

About 7% of Americans are already starting their 4th of July vacation today.

As Americans gear up for 4th of July celebrations on Wednesday, many are planning to take a few extra days off for the holiday, according to new data from YouGov.

When asked which days they would be taking off work this week, 37% said they would not be working on Wednesday, July 4. Another 13% said they wouldn’t be working on Thursday, and 11% said they would not be working on Friday. More than a third (37%) of people said the question didn’t apply to them, as they don’t typically work Monday through Friday.

Some Americans might already be on vacation. Seven percent of people planned to take Monday, July 2 off, while 8% are starting their vacation tomorrow on Tuesday.

People with annual incomes of $80,000 or more are the most likely to be out of office this week. Compared to other income levels, people in the $80K+ group were significantly more likely to say they would be taking the day off work for nearly every day this week.

Meanwhile, women were generally less likely than men to report they would be taking any days off -- though this could be in part because 43% of women say they don’t work Monday through Friday in the first place, compared to only 30% of men who chose this response.
